Walk. To and From

This work explores the experience of taking walks in lockdown. Through the medium of poetry, the artist expresses their thoughts on how time spent away from the outdoors has made it feel strange and unfamiliar. Focusing on the singular aspect of fallen leaves, the paintings evidence the walks the artist takes between their home and 3 significant locations: the shop, the library, and the food bank. On each journey there and back, the artist has collected leaves and small branches and arranged then to form 6 small compositions inspired by Joy Gregory’s work, ‘Invisible Life Force of Plants’. Each image is painted on cardboard acquired from Amazon delivery boxes. Together with the locations mentioned, these makeshift canvases serve to paint a bleak picture of the artist’s habits during the national lockdown.
