Home Objects

Tehya Connery

Home Objects is made up of sounds that I collected around the house, such as a toothbrush, the kettle boiling, peeling a banana etc, then edited together on garage band to create a cohesive track. For example the repetitive beat is taken from a recording that I did of the milk bottle cap hitting the counter. Tehya is currently exploring the existence and presence of objects and the idea of object permanence – the understanding that an object still exists, even if it is out of sight. The sound piece was a response to translating domestic objects into another form, a collective sound which also captured the monotonous background noise of the domestic space.
